Meet the friendly staff at Paradise Point Animal Hospital!
Desiree Garthe, DVM
Dr. Garthe has worked in the veterinary field for over 35 years. She started her journey in the industry following her high school graduation. She began working as a receptionist in a very busy veterinary hospital in the city of Chicago. She continued her employment in the veterinary world as a technician while putting herself through college. Once receiving her undergraduate degree in Chemistry she decided to further pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and graduated with honors with a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine in May of 2001.
Dr. Garthe is a general veterinary practitioner whose professional interests are in dentistry, acupuncture, and rehabilitation. She is a certified veterinary acupuncturist and is currently working on a certification in canine rehabilitation.
She loves to spend her free time with her family which includes her husband, James; her 2 sons, Aidan and Owen; her Boston Terrier, Zeke; and her 2 cats Rocky and Ruby.
Carolina was born in Holland and began working in the veterinary field at the age of 16. After coming to the states she began working as a horse trainer. It was there that she met her future employer/friend. A student of hers was a veterinarian who was in the process of opening up an animal clinic with her husband. They needed someone to fill in as a technician for a couple of weeks and knew that Carolina had some experience. Who would have thought that a couple of weeks would turn into a 30-year commitment? She worked in all areas of their veterinary practice and eventually became the practice manager. It was at their hospital that she met Dr. Garthe. She and Dr. Garthe worked together for 14 years and are now back together again.
Paradise Point Animal Hospital and Dr. Garthe are thrilled that Carolina accepted a position as Hospital Administrator. ‘We are so lucky to have such an experienced, dedicated, compassionate woman to lead our team,’ says Dr. Garthe.
In her spare time, you can find Carolina keeping active in the Arizona desert; hiking, biking, and trail riding with her horse Kona. She also enjoys traveling abroad. She is the pet parent to her horse, Kona; her 3 dogs, LouLou, Malou, and Sierra; and her cat, Spaz.
Heather is a native of Phoenix and lives with her husband, Dean, and their 2 dogs, Reggie and Gromit. When not spending time with them, she enjoys making candles and working on her herb garden.
Wanting to leave the big world of corporations, Heather received an opportunity to work for an animal hospital in 2012, where she met Dr. Garthe and was thrilled to be working for the benefit of animal health. It was such a rewarding experience that upon leaving in 2017, she found that she wanted to continue that mission in her future career.
It was then that Dr. Garthe contacted her and told her about her next venture of opening up her own hospital. Heather was honored to be asked to come on board at Paradise Point Animal Hospital and be able to continue to care for pets for years to come.

‘I love helping others and I wanted to make a positive impact on someone else’s life. I grew up with farm animals and I knew I wanted to help them too. Veterinary Medicine gave me the opportunity to help both pets and their owners. Veterinary Medicine has significantly and positively impacted my life. I can’t see myself doing something else.
