A Crossroads and a New Beginning
In 2019, Dr. Desiree Garthe faced a major turning point in her veterinary career. After more than 15 years of practicing at Shea Animal Hospital, a neighborhood hospital near her home, the practice was sold to a large corporate group. The new direction didn’t align with Dr. Garthe’s deeply personal and hands-on approach to veterinary medicine. She made the heartfelt decision to step away and follow her own path.
Veterinarians On The Go Is Launched
Wanting to reconnect with her longtime clients and offer a more compassionate, convenient alternative, Dr. Garthe launched her own mobile service: Dr. Garthe On The Go—later renamed Veterinarians On The Go. Inspired by the era when doctors made house calls, her vision was to deliver high-quality, trusted veterinary care—right at the client’s doorstep.
Dr. Garthe provides care from a carefully equipped Sprinter van, specially designed to reduce stress in pets and provide a safe, efficient, and professional medical environment. The van is stocked with advanced tools, essential supplies, and—most importantly—an overwhelming amount of compassion and love.
Clients embraced this “old school” mobile model immediately. Pets remained calm and comfortable, and families loved the convenience of having Dr. Garthe travel to them, without the stress of visiting a traditional animal hospital.
A Need for More: Paradise Point Animal Hospital Is Born
As demand for mobile care continued to grow, Dr. Garthe realized there were limitations to what could be done on the road, especially for pets needing advanced diagnostics or urgent treatment. With the help of her husband Jim Garthe, a licensed architecturally modern influenced general contractor, they built a one-of-a-kind solution from the ground up.
Within two years, Paradise Point Animal Hospital opened its doors. Located in the heart of the community Dr. Garthe has served for over 20 years, this architecturally modern hospital offers expanded services while maintaining the same personalized, compassionate approach.
Veterinarians On The Go—Still Rolling Strong
Even with a full-service animal hospital in place, Dr. Garthe remains committed to mobile care. Veterinarians On The Go continues to operate three days a month, serving clients within a 7-mile radius of the hospital.
Whether your pet is anxious in new settings or you simply love the convenience, we’re proud to offer the same quality of care, from our specially designed Sprinter van to your home.
